First grade builds on Kindergarten foundations with increased rigor in reading, writing, and mathematics. Our mission is to support each child academically and socially in a caring classroom.
Students develop fluency and comprehension through leveled reading, guided reading groups, and daily independent reading. We use a variety of texts to build skills and enjoyment.
Introduction to narrative, informative, and opinion writing. Grammar, spelling, and sentence structure are taught in context.
Addition and subtraction within 20, place value, measurement, and geometry. Problem-solving and reasoning are emphasized.
Hands-on science units and social studies themes help students explore the world and develop inquiry skills.
